Understanding the Canadian Dental Care Plan

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal initiative designed to make dental care more affordable for Canadians. Managed by Health Canada and administered by Sun Life, this program helps eligible individuals and families access essential oral health services.

Who is Eligible?

You may qualify for the CDCP if you are:

A senior aged 65 or older
A child under 18 years old
An adult with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate
A Canadian resident with a household income of less than $90,000 per year

What is Covered?

The CDCP covers a portion of the cost for a variety of dental services, including preventive, diagnostic, and restorative treatments. Some services may require pre-approval before they’re performed.

How Coverage Works

Individuals and families in lower income brackets may receive full coverage.

Those in middle-income brackets may qualify for partial coverage or subsidies.

Who Can Apply?

Canadians who do not have existing dental insurance through their employer, pension, or other organization can apply for the CDCP.
